Early 2024 brought a little facelift to the downstairs of The Cottage!
This roomy character cottage sits below the glorious gaze of Helm Crag. With unique elevated south and west position overlooking the Vale of Grasmere and 360 degree mountain and valley views, The Cottage is a rather special place to stay in the central Lake District. A 19th century building that was once the ‘downhouse’ for the original Broadrayne Farm, we have thoughtfully converted this fantastic spot into a modern country abode full to the brim with home comforts.

Through the gate you’ll find a charming cottage garden that catches the sun all day. Here you’ll find an entrance hall that leads into a large, recently refurbished kitchen complete with a farmhouse dining table perfect for family dinners and a feature fireplace - the epitome of old meets new. The spacious, fully-fitted kitchen has useful extras including an integrated dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge-freezer, microwave, induction hob and coffee machine. Although, if you fancy breakfast or dinner from our bistro either delivered to your door or within the restaurant, just book a table here.

Steps from the kitchen, lead down into a modern lounge with plush sofa and two comfy armchairs, a wall mounted Smart 4K LED TV, a cobblestone feature wall where a log burner can be found and viewpoint windows with truly breathtaking views across the fells.

Upstairs there are two good-sized bedrooms that again, have beautiful views out of every window. The superking-sized double room catches the afternoon sun and the double room looks out towards Helm Crag (the superking-sized double can be split into twins beds at request). A family bathroom can also be found upstairs with a shower bath, basin and WC. The double room also has its own wash basin. Crisp white linen, fluffy towels and bath sheets, and our favourite natural Pure Lake toiletries are included for all guests, as standard.

Back downstairs, a door from the porch way leads out into a private, delightful south-facing garden which benefits from uninterrupted mountain and valley views. Tucked in amongst the mature garden and flowers, you’ll also find a small BBQ, table & chairs and a lovely companion seat to watch the sun go down over Helm Crag. Idyllic. The Cottage has a parking space for one car.

We know dogs love The Lakes just as much as their humans so we’ve made The Cottage a dog-friendly Lake District cottage. It is able to accommodate two dogs. We can supply dog towels and poo bags. Your waggy-tailed family member will also get a bag of locally made, natural doggy treats as a welcome gift.  Please bring your pet's bed, water and food bowls with you. A whole host of extras can be booked ready for your arrival including eggs from our ducks and hens, a bottle of Champagne, logs for your wood burner or bags of kindling. Just select your preferences and we’ll have it ready and waiting for you.

Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is before 10am.
