The Smithy

What to expect 

The Smithy, new to the farm for 2023, is a detached, one-bedroom self-catering cottage near Grasmere. Small but perfectly formed, this cottage sees a contemporary space set within a 19th Century building that used to be the blacksmiths on the farm. You can now find a modern, self-contained property with vast high ceilings, a sympathetic conversion with quality fixtures and furnishings which acts as the perfect base to explore The Lakes. With any day arrival, only two night minimum stay, you can plan the perfect short break.

The Smithy is all on one level with stunning views towards Helm Crag and Steel Fells on one side and french doors opening out to a private sitting area overlooking Grasmere Village, Loughrigg and Silver Howe. The space comprises an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area complete with a log burning stove, comfy sofa, wall-mounted 55" LED Smart 4K flat-screen TV with bluetooth connect sound bar, and WiFi throughout. The bright, modern kitchen comes well-equipped with an oven, induction hob, microwave, Nespresso machine, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer. Although, if you fancy breakfast or dinner from our bistro either delivered to your door or within the restaurant, just book a table here.

The bedroom at The Smithy is a lovely king-sized bedroom with relaxing, neutral furnishings. A large, ultra-modern bathroom with bath, shower, basin and WC can be found separately. Crisp white linen, fluffy towels and bath sheets, and our favourite natural Pure Lake toiletries are included for all guests, as standard. 

Babies (not yet walking at the time of stay) are free of charge and there is plenty of room for a travel cot, if needed. We have the Hauck Travel Cot, Set Sleep N Play Centre available at a £10 additional charge.

Our farm cottage also has its own enclosed outdoor south facing garden with a BBQ where you can sit and watch the sun rise over Grasmere or see the last of the sun setting past Helm Crag - not to mention the spring lambs in the field next door! As well as parking right outside the door for one car.

We know dogs love The Lakes just as much as their humans so we’ve made The Smithy a dog-friendly Lake District cottage. It is able to accommodate one dog. We can supply dog towels and poo bags. Your waggy-tailed family member will also get a bag of locally made, natural doggy treats as a welcome gift.  Please bring your pet's bed, water and food bowls with you. A whole host of extras can be booked ready for your arrival including eggs from our ducks and hens, a bottle of Champagne, logs for your wood burner or bags of kindling. Just select your preferences and we’ll have it ready and waiting for you.

Check-in is from 4pm and check-out is before 10am.
